Improving Alkyl–Alkyl Cross-Coupling Catalysis with Early Transition Metals through Mechanistic Understanding and Metal Tuning

چکیده
Alkyl–alkyl cross-coupling is a powerful C–C bond-forming transformation typically catalyzed by late transition metals. Herein, we report mechanistic investigation into an early metal-catalyzed variant of this reaction. Through understanding, ideal Y catalyst was determined through tuning the metal in order to optimize oxidation potential, which governs rate-limiting step A wide substrate scope revealed that includes variety functional groups as well less activated substrates.

Tuning the metal-insulator transition in manganite films through surface exchange coupling with magnetic nanodots.
In strongly correlated electronic systems, the global transport behavior depends sensitively on spin ordering. We show that spin ordering in manganites can be controlled by depositing isolated ferromagnetic nanodots at the surface. The exchange field at the interface is tunable with nanodot density and makes it possible to overcome dimensionality and strain effects in frustrated systems to grea...

Since initial reports, cross-coupling technologies employing photoredox catalysts to access novel reactivity have developed with increasing pace. In this Outlook, prominent examples from the recent literature are organized on the basis of the elementary transformation enabled by photoredox catalysis and are discussed in the context of relevant historical precedent in stoichiometric organometall...
متن کاملUnderstanding catalysis in a multiphasic two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenide
Establishing processing-structure-property relationships for monolayer materials is crucial for a range of applications spanning optics, catalysis, electronics and energy. Presently, for molybdenum disulfide, a promising catalyst for artificial photosynthesis, considerable debate surrounds the structure/property relationships of its various allotropes. Here we unambiguously solve the structure ...
متن کاملTransition-Metal-Free Cross-Coupling of Aryl Halides with Arylstannanes.
Transition-metal-free LiCl-promoted cross-coupling reactions of tetraphenyltin, trichlorophenyl-, dichlorodiphenyl-, and chlorotriphenylstannanes with aryl halides in DMF provided access to biaryls in good to high yields. Up to four phenyl groups were transferred from the organostannanes substrates. The aryls bearing electron-withdrawing groups in either halides or organotin substrates gave cou...
متن کاملTandem rhodium catalysis: exploiting sulfoxides for asymmetric transition-metal catalysis.
Sulfoxides are uncommon substrates for transition-metal catalysis due to their propensity to inhibit catalyst turnover. In a collaborative effort with Ken Houk, we developed the first dynamic kinetic resolution (DKR) of allylic sulfoxides using asymmetric rhodium-catalyzed hydrogenation. A detailed mechanistic analysis of this transformation using both experimental and theoretical methods revea...
